On arrival Our representative will meet at arrival Bandaranayaka International airport. Thereafter they will be introduced to the local tour guide/ Chauffeur who will be accompanying them around the Island. Afterwards leave for Pinnawala. PINNAWELA ELEPHANT ORPHANAGE App. 55 miles from Colombo, off the Colombo – Kandy road is Pinnawela, where an orphanage was started in 1975 to house the abandoned and the wounded elephants. The number of elephants has increased to more than 65 now; including Baby Elephants brought from various parts, as well as some of the more than 25 babies born, as a result of the captive breeding program. The best time to visit is the feeding time from 0930-1000 hrs and 1330-1400 hrs and the bathing time from 1000-1030 hrs and 1400-1430 hrs when all the elephants are taken to the river close by. Afterwards drive to Kandalama. Dinner & overnight stay at the selected hotel.

After breakfast at the hotel leave for sightseeing to Anuradhapura. ANURADHAPURA – the capital of Sri Lanka from the 05th Century B.C. to the end of the 10th Century A.D. was the most celebrated of Sri Lanka’s ancient ruined cities. The city’s greatest treasures are its dagobas constructed of bricks and are hemispherical in shape. The most notable of these dagobas are the Ruvanveliseya dating back to the 2nd Century B.C. and is 300 feet in diameter, the Jetawanarama is 370 feet and the Thuparama Dagoba is enshrined with the collarbone of the Buddha. The city’s most renowned relic is the sacred Bo Tree, which is said to have grown from a branch of the tree under which the Buddha gained Enlightenment. It was planted 2250 years ago and is the oldest historically authenticated tree in the world. Anuradhapura is a “World Heritage Site” (Approx 02 – 02 ½ hrs for sightseeing) Late afternoon drive back to hotel en-route visiting Mihintale (Approx 20 mts to reach Mihintale) Mihintale – 8 miles from Anuradhapura is the” Cradle of Buddhism” in Sri Lanka. Mihintale is the first sanctuary in the world for Flora & Fauna declared in 247 B.C and is still a sanctuary. The King of Anuradhapura met the missiony Arahat Mahinda here, and the monument dates from 3rd C.B.C. When you climb 1840 steps you see Ambastale Dagaba, Maha Seya, Kantaka Cetiya, Alms Hall, Hospital, Kaludiya Pokuna, Naga Pokuna and other monuments. Dinner & overnight stay at the selected hotel.

After breakfast at the hotel leave for sightseeing to Sigiriya & climb Sigiriya Rock Fortress (Approx 02 hours to climb up and return) Sigiriya – is home to the 5th Century “Fortress in the Sky” which is perhaps the most fantastic single wonder of the Island. It is also known as Lion Rock because of the huge lion that used to stand at the entrance to the fortress. Within its triple-moated defence the huge rock rises almost to a sheer height of 500ft. On its summit are the foundations of what was once a great and sumptuous palace and gardens complete with swimming pool. On one of the stairways the only known ancient work of Sinhala secular painting survived in the form of Frescoes of life sized damsels in all the freshness and delicacy of their original colour. Proceed to Polonnaruwa for sightseeing (Aprox 01 – 1 ½ hrs) Polonnaruwa – Polonnaruwa was the medieval capital of Sri Lanka from the 11th – 13th C.A.D Great revival was achieved in the country, politically, economically and socially during the period of Kings Vijayabahu 1, Parakramabahu 1 and Nissankamalla of the Polonnaruwa period. The monuments are better preserved than at Anuradhapura. Parakrama Statue, Royal Palaces, Audience Halls, Vata-da-ge, Thuparama, Rankoth Vehera, Kiri-Vehera, Gal-Vihara, Lankathilaka and Tivanka Image House are some of the interesting monuments here. (Approx 02 hrs) After sightseeing drive back to hotel. Dinner & overnight stay at the selected hotel.

After breakfast at proceed to Kandy en-route visiting Dambulla Cave Temples & a spice garden in Matale./ Dambulla – Dambulla is famous for the five cave Temples on a rock. The first 03 caves are better, older and larger than the other two. Some caves dates to 1st C.B.C. All the 5 cave walls and ceilings are covered with Buddhist murals and there are more than 130 Buddha statues, statues of Gods and Kings are also found here. (Approx 01 – 1 ½ hrs to climb up and return) A spice Garden, Spice Garden at Matale and see the luscious Cinnamons, Cardamons, Pepper plants etc. You can also purchase your requirements of spices. (Reach Approx 1 – 1 ½ hrs) (Approx 30 – 45 mts to spend) To reach Kandy from Matale (Approx 01 ½ hour) Later on drive to Kandy . Dinner & overnight stay at the selected hotel.

After breakfast visit Peradeniya botanical gardens Royal Botanical Gardens – 147 acres in extent: started in 1374 as a pleasure garden of the King’s of Kandy. There are more than 5000 species of tree and plants. Some and endemic as well as flora from the tropical world. Spice garden and Orchid House are popular with Tourists. Afternoon commence city tour of Kandy, including Upper Lake Drive, Market Square, Arts & Crafts Centre, Gem Museum. (Approx 02 – 2 ½ hrs) Kandy – the hill capital, venue of the annual Perahera. The last stronghold of the Sinhala Kings was finally ceded to the British in 1815. Kandy is an example of the Buddhism’s influence in Sri Lanka today. Temple’s shrines and monasteries keeping alive Buddhist traditions are everywhere. Evening visit The Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relics and Cultural dance performance (Approx 01 – 1 ½ hrs spend in Temple). Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic – ever since 4th Century A.D, when the Buddha’s Tooth was brought to Sri Lanka hidden from sacrilegious hands in an Orissan princess’ hair, the Relic has grown in repute and holiness in Sri Lanka and throughout the Buddhist world. It is considered Sri Lanka’s most prized possession. (Approx 01hour) Dinner & overnight stay at the selected hotel.

After breakfast check-out and drive to Nuwara Eliya. Nuwara Eliya – The ‘Little England’ of Sri Lanka, is set against beautiful backdrops of Mountains, Valleys, Waterfalls and Tea Plantations. It is supposed to be one of the coldest places on the island, but is really just like an England spring day although the temperature does drop at night. All around Nuwara Eliya you will see evidence of the British influence. Houses are like country cottages or Queen Ann style mansions. After sightseeing check-in hotel in Kandapola. Dinner & Overnight stay at the selected hotel.

In morning after breakfast leave for Horton Plains. HORTON PLAINS NATIONAL PARK– 20 miles (32 km) from Nuwara Eliya via Ambewela and Pattipola, is the Horton Plains only 3160 hectares in extent. Known to Sri Lankans as Mahaeliya, it became Horton Plains after Sir Robert Horton, British Governor from 1831- 1837. Horton Plains became a Nature Reserve in 1969 and upgraded as a National Park in 1988 due to its unique watershed and bio-diversity values. Its flora has high level of endemism. The hills are covered with diverse wet low evergreen forest with even large trees grown flattened to the ground on the higher windswept slopes. Horton Plains harbors 52 species of resident birds and 11 species of migrant birds. UNESCO World Heritage Site & Eco-tourism hideout in the heart of the isle, painted with unending stretches of green pastures marks one of the healthiest wet montane evergreen forests in Sri Lanka. Drive back to hotel in Kandapola. Dinner & Overnight stay at the selected hotel.

After Breakfast leave for Yala. Visit Yala national park YALA (RUHUNA) NATIONAL PARK- the Ruhunu National Park covers 126,786 hectares including the Strict Natural Reserve (Block II). The most familiar is Block I (14,101 hectares) and this were established in 1938. Yala is famous for its big herds and large number of Elephants, Leopards, Spotted Deer, Sambhur, Crocodiles, Mongoose, Wild Boar, Wild Buffalo, and many other animals. More than 130 bird species are recorded which includes the resident and winter visitors. Dinner & Overnight stay at the selected hotel.

After breakfast leave for Airport En-route Visit the Gall Dutch Fortress. An ancient city which is now a modern and buzzing town today. It was the most important sea port way back in history, where the sea faring merchants arrived to trade and barter. This is also where the Portuguese first set foot in the year 1505 and built a fortress, which was later captured and fortified by the Dutch. The fortress is one of the best preserved in the island. A visit to the fortress and to watch the sunset from the rampart is an experience unforgettable. The oldest Protestant church in the country called the ‘Groote Kirk’ built by the Dutch is located inside the Fort. It is situated close to New Oriental Hotel also built by them as the Governor’s Residence in 1684. Proceed to the Beach hotel or the Airport to board on the departure flight.
