Vilnius
The capital city of Lithuania, Vilnius is a treasure trove of medieval architecture along with Gothic and Russo-flavoured Baroque. The best part of Vilnius lies in the Old Town with cobbled roads, magnificent churches and castles. A must visit is the 13th century Upper castle citadel and the stunning St Anne’s Church. If you want to check out the vibrancy of the town head to the new town. It is pulsating with bars, clubs and great music.
Curonian Spit and Klaipeda
The Curonian Spit is a unique sight. It is close to Klaipeda and has the largest moving sand dunes in the whole of Europe. It has gorgeous landscapes in the form of beaches, fishing villages and crystal clear sea water. Artists love the village of Nida, which has inspired many artists like Thomas Mann and Freud. You can indulge in retail therapy too as the town is known for its amber jewelry.
Aukštaitija National Park
This national park has a beautiful landscape with dazzling blue lakes, wild forests and varied biodiversity sprinkled all around. There are many cultural sights worth visiting as well including; the quirky Museum of Ancient Beekeeping and the 8th-century wooden church of Palūšė.
Anyksciai
A pretty, historic town with unique natural beauty, Anyksciai provides stunning views of Lake Rubikiai, pinewood forests, and myriad churches and monuments. The town is also renowned for its museums. Some excellent choices of museums are the Angel Museum, showcasing a collection of sacred art, the Narrow Gauge Railway Museum and the Forest Museum.
Birzai
One of the oldest cities of Lithuania, Birzai, dates back to over five centuries. It is culturally rich and has many gorgeous churches. It has unique natural attractions too including, sinkholes that have more than 9,000 karst formations. Some must visit places are Rinkuskiai Brewery Butautu Manor Brewery, Birzai Castle and Birzai Regional Park.
