Fascinating Faroe Island

( 5 Star )
Based in the capital, Tórshavn, this itinerary combines guided day trips with time for independent exploration. Travellers will discover dramatic cliffs, remote villages, Viking heritage sites, and untouched natural beauty across several islands, while staying comfortably in one central location.

Arrival at Vágar Airport followed by a transfer to the accommodation in Tórshavn. Time to settle in and prepare for the journey ahead.

After breakfast, travel to the island of Borðoy and visit Klaksvík, the second-largest town in the Faroe Islands. Continue to the quiet village of Kunoy and the scenic settlement of Viðareiði. On the return to Tórshavn, pass through an underwater tunnel featuring an art installation by Tróndur Patursson.

A flexible day to explore at your own pace. Optional activities include:

Day trip to Mykines (May–August): Boat trip to the bird-rich island, home to puffins and gannets.
City walk in Tórshavn (May–September): A one-hour guided walk through the old town and harbour area.

Join a boat tour to the impressive Vestmanna cliffs, navigating narrow straits and sea caves. On the return journey, stop in Kvívík to view remains of Viking houses and learn more about Norse traditions.

Visit the fjord village of Saksun and continue to Tjørnuvík, with views of the Giant and the Witch sea stacks. A stop is made at the Fossá waterfall before continuing to Gjógv, known for its natural harbour and views of Slættaratindur, the islands’ highest peak.

Travel by ferry to Sandoy, one of the least developed islands in the archipelago. Explore villages, churches, and scenic viewpoints. On the return, visit Kirkjubøur, the islands’ most important historical site, home to the medieval St. Olav’s Church and the unfinished Magnus Cathedral.

An optional day trip to Vágar Island is available. Highlights include the picturesque village of Bøur, views of the sea stacks Drangarnir, and the famous Múlafossur waterfall.

After breakfast, transfer to Vágar Airport for the return flight.

Local tip - When visiting Gjógv, make time to sit at the edge of the village’s famous sea-filled gorge and just listen. Locals say it’s one of the best spots to hear the raw sound of the Atlantic—wind, waves, and seabirds all at once. If you're lucky, you might catch sight of a seal popping up near the natural harbour. And don’t leave without trying a warm bowl of ræst kjøt (fermented lamb) at the cosy guesthouse if it’s on the menu—it’s a truly Faroese experience.
