Catch Sight Of The Amazonia
Visit: Quito - Historical center - La Mitad del Mundo - Cuyabeno - Jungle expedition -
You will land at the Mariscal Sucre international airport, on the east side of the capital.
There, you will meet your driver who will welcome you in his country and will accompany you to your hotel.
To be steeped in the local atmosphere, you will stay in the heart of Quito historical center, between cobbled streets and colonial monuments.
In order to fully appreciate the beauty of Quito’s historical center, the largest and better preserved of Latin America, there is nothing like crossing it by foot.
During your walk in the pedestrian streets, you will admire the wonders of this Unesco World Heritage, its beautiful churches and monasteries museums, lively squares…
You will contemplate the exceptional setting in which the capital is during your climbing to the Panecillo hill.
After your lunch, you will join la Mitad del Mundo, on the equinoctial line and you will be able to confirm the truthfulness of the different properties ascribed to the equator. Try to keep an egg in equilibrium on a nail or ask someone to take a photo of you with one foot in each hemisphere.
When arriving in Lago Agrio, you will be welcomed and transferred to Cuyabeno entrance, where you will picnic. There is the reserve office in which you will have to register.
Your nature guide will give you the first information on the reserve, the important recommendations and other advices before starting your 2-hour journey by boat on the Río Cuyabeno to join the lodge. While sailing, you will have the opportunity of observing different bird species as well as other animals.
When arriving to the lodge, you will be accompanied to your rooms and will be able to rest before going to swim in the lagoon and admire the beautiful sunset from the middle of the Laguna Grande. You will then come back for dinner and to spend the night in your chalet.
After breakfast, you will start walking in the primary forest for 3-4 hours accompanied by your guide. The latter will explain how the tropical ecosystem works. You will also learn more about the medicinal plants and may have the opportunity of seeing exotic birds or monkeys.
You will go back to the lodge for lunch then to rest a little. In the afternoon, you will go to see the butterflies and to swim in the lagoon. You may have the chance to see the beautiful pink dolphins while you look at the sunset. You will go back to the camp for dinner then will start a nocturnal activity in the search of caimans on the river banks.
In the morning, you will sail on a canoe for about one hour to go meet a family in the Tarapuy Community. You will learn how to prepare the Casabe, a Yuca traditional bread.
During boat transfers, you should have the chance to catch sight alongside the river of birds, monkeys, snakes, pink dolphins, tortoises and many more animals.
You will have lunch in the community then will be back during the afternoon, where you will start a nocturnal hike from, to look for insects, spiders, geckos and scorpions, as well as to listen the calming sound of the Amazonian nocturnal life.
Before breakfast, an optional bird watching activity will be organized. Back to the lodge, you will have your breakfast then will head back to Lago Agrio. You will once more have a picnic at the exit of the reserve then will be accompanied to take your flight or other transport.
