Northern Lights Retreat, Iceland 6 days
Visit: Reykjavik and Hotel Rangá
Iceland in winter is magical. We welcome you to Reykjavik, the island’s trendy capital with is bustling streets with many quirky stores. But Iceland is much more! Let us take you away from the civilization to the luxury Hotel Rangá. Here you can relax and go an adventure exploring the Icelandic winter landscape. In addition, Hotel Rangá is a hot spot for seeing the Northern lights, away from all artificial lights. Let us whisk you away!
On arrival at to Keflavik airport transfer by the airport shuttle bus (not guided) to your hotel in the center of Reykjavik. The rest of the day is at your leisure to explore the Icelandic capital
Accommodation at Hotel Borg or similar (2 nights)
Enjoy a leisurely breakfast at the hotel and enjoy the day at leisure in Iceland’s capital. We recommend a 2,5 hours tour of the most significant places of Reykjavik and the surrounding cities. Visit the presidential residence at Bessastaðir as well as Hafnarfjörður, the town where “hidden people” and humans live together in harmony. You will also see old fishing harbours and enjoy the magnificent view from Perlan, build on the cities hot water supply tank. For the rest of the day you can explore the city by yourself. Or why not take a tour to the famous Blue Lagoon, where you can relax in a natural geothermal pool in the middle of a large and dramatic lava field.
In the evening we can recommend a Northern Lights Hunt which can be done by bus or boat. Please ask us for prices.
Breakfast at your hotel. It is time to say goodbye to city life for now and go back to nature. You will be picked up from your hotel and taken to Hotel Rangá. This takes about approx. 1.5hrs. Upon entering the cosy luxury hotel, you will be greeted by a towering 10-foot tall polar bear named Hrammur that resides in the lobby. Take the rest of the day to get familiar with the hotel and its surroundings. Time to relax and enjoy nature!
In the evening the chances to see the Northern lights are great! All lights are turned off around the hotel and therefore there is no light pollution. You can just step outside and see the Northern Lights if the weather forecast allows. In addition the hotel offers an Aurora alarm for all guests.
Dinner and accommodation at Hotel Rangá (3 nights)
Breakfast at your hotel and set of for an adventure tour to Þórsmörk, valley by a monstrous super jeep. Þórsmörk, valley of the Thunder God Thor, sits amongst three sparkling ice caps, Mýrdalsjökull, Tindfjallajökull and Eyjafjallajökull. Sights include Gígjökull where powerful glacial floods escaped during the 2010 Eyjafjallajökull eruption. Your local guide will vividly tell you about this eruption, including stories only locals know about. Along the way, short hikes are always an option, to truly feel the pull and tug of the landscape.
Evening at leisure at the hotel and be ready for the northern lights!
Breakfast at your hotel and the rest of the day is yours to enjoy stunning Hotel Rangá. Go for a walk in the surroundings or make use of the outdoor hot tub and relax here with a drink watching the peaceful nature or the sparkling northern lights in the evening. The hotel does also offers massages, if you need to relax just a bit more before returning to your hectic everyday life.
Breakfast at the hotel and transfer to Keflavik Airport. This takes about two hours. We therefore recommend a flight in the afternoon.
