Depart from the hotel to visit the Christ Statue, recently elected as one of the seven modern wonders of the world. The statue sits 2,300 ft. above sea level, atop Corcovado Hill. Following a scenic drive along the Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon, we will arrive at the foot of the hill, where we embark on a small train which climbs the beautiful mountainside. Every year over a million tourists visit the world famous Pão de Açúcar (Sugar Loaf Mountain), which has become an iconic symbol of Rio de Janeiro. Rising up from a small peninsula at the entrance of Guanabara Bay, its name is said to refer to its resemblance to the traditional shape of concentrated refined sugar loaf. The first cable-car takes passengers to the top of Urca Hill, which rises 215 meters above sea level and offers spectacular views of the entire bay and its islands. From Urca Hill, passengers continue in a second cable car to the top of Sugar Loaf, 395 meters above sea level , which offers a 360 degree view of the entire city, including Botafogo and Copacabana Beaches, Corcovado and downtown Rio. Pick up at the hotel and head towards the Iguaçu National Park in Brazil. En route to the falls, we will drive through the lush, subtropical vegetation of the park. After arrival, we will take a descending trail of the canyon, from where we can enjoy panoramic views of more than 240 falls. We will board a glass elevator, which takes us to a platform where more exquisite views will be revealed. Along with its “sister” park in Argentina, The Iguassu National Park forms the most significant remaining rainforest in the southern cone of South America, which along with the waterfalls have been declared a National Heritage Site by UNESCO. Departure from the Hotel, Cross the Tancredo Neves Bridge with its lovely view of the Iguassu Canyon heading towards the Iguaçu National Park in Argentina. At the entrance, a small train takes visitors on a tour through the park, making 2 stops: upper and lower circuit. Follow the walkways to the top of the waterfalls that provide spectacularly unique views of the ‘Cataratas’, amidst the abundant nature filled with orchids, colorful birds and other wildlife. The highlight of the trip is a visit to the suspended platform at the very brink of the Devil’s Throat – largest of the waterfalls. Just 120 km from Santiago, in a rocky coast of unique beauty and overlooking the Pacific Ocean are Viña del Mar and Valparaiso. The journey from Santiago passes through the Curacavi Valley, dotted with fields with large vineyards and colorful shops selling fresh fruits, continuing through the Valley of Casablanca, showing visitors their vines decorating slopes and plains. Arrival at Valparaíso, first port of Chile declared Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO, built on hills on the coast of a hectic Bay. The true beauty of Valparaíso are the hills that divide the city into two levels with its picturesque streets, alleys and passages. Traditional is the use of elevators to join the two levels of the city. Panoramic tour of the port, the Plaza Sotomayor, the Intendencia (1910), an imposing white and grey Victorian building. East of the plaza, Cochrane and Prat streets are the oldest and most traditional in the financial district. Northeast of the square, passing the Monument to the Heroes of Iquique, stands the Prat Pier for a good view of the Harbour and colorful fishing boats. Climbing the Cerro Playa Ancha you reach the May 21 Viewpoint, for a spectacular view of the port the city and the surrounding mountains. The visit continues towards the city of Viña del Mar, passing through the traditional "flower clock," recently fully restored after being destroyed by the fall of a tree. Viña del Mar is the "Garden City", due to its beautiful parks, original suburban architectural style, beautiful beaches and coastal avenues dotted with modern buildings, hotels, the Casino, restaurants and outdoor cafes. Half-hidden among the hills and with its splendid gardens is the "Quinta Vergara", one of the main attractions of Viña del Mar. Worth a stop for photographs of a real moai from Easter Island, located in the gardens of the Fonck Museum. Time permitting, proceed by a coastal road of great beauty, always overlooking over the restless Pacific and in the distance the colorful port of Valparaiso, to reach the exclusive resorts of Reñaca, Concón (8 km), epicenters of our summer holidays (December and February). First, we will stop off at the Main Square, to explore it on foot and admire the exteriors of the Government Palace, the Cathedral, and the City Hall, all examples of Lima's still-present colonial architectural opulence. We will visit the Cathedral; as walking through its numerous chapels, we'll discover various architectural styles and learn about the religious history of Peru. We will continue with the visit to San Francisco Convent built in the 17th century, and its “Catacombs” ancient underground cemetery of Lima. Finally, we will begin a journey through the streets of modern Lima as head toward the most traditional of the residential zones of the capital: San Isidro, the heart of the city's financial district; and Miraflores, a perfect spot to enjoy wonderful views of the Pacific Ocean. We will continue with a visit to one of the most impressive buildings of Incan Cusco: the Qoricancha (the Golden Temple) - a temple dedicated to the worship of the Sun God, whose interior walls were said to have been covered in gold. Full day tour to Sacred Valley: Pisac Market, Pisac Archaeological Park and Ollantaytambo Fortress. Lunch included at Tunupa Restaurant. This morning, we will continue the trip toward the Sacred Valley, a few miles farther along, we will reach Pisac, a beautiful place where Incan and Colonial influences have reached a perfect balance and created the unique way of life of the local inhabitants. We will get a chance to explore this quaint town, famous for its artisan markets where we can find extraordinarily fine jewelry and ceramic and textile craftwork. Few miles away, on the slopes of a mountain, which overlooks the Vilcanota River is the Archaeological Park of Pisac, where we will find andens of different areas and altitudes separate by architectural structures. The most notable of these is the solar calendar (INTIWATANA) that means, “Where the sun is tied”. Finally, we will visit one of the last remaining Incan towns, Ollantaytambo, which was once fiercely guarded by a massive fortress. We will discover the large archaeological complex of what used to serve as a wayside inn for royal delegations on long journeys. Surviving structures here include multiple walls and towers that were used to protect the citadel from possible invasions. Full day visit to the Historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu departing from Cusco. Buffet lunch included at Sanctuary Lodge. We will pick you up from your hotel at the scheduled time and go to the train Station. The comfortable Vistadome train ride from there to the station at Aguas Calientes is packed full of spectacular vistas. On our arrival, we will take a bus that will drop us at the admission fee to the citadel of Machu Picchu itself. Unearthed for modernity by Hiram Bingham more than a century ago, Machu Picchu is considered one of the seven wonders of the world. Its architectural beauty, spectacular natural setting, and the energy that radiates from its enigmatic buildings will take your breath away. We will follow in the footsteps of the ancient Incas as we take a tour of the magical citadel led by one of our guides. Afterwards we will enjoy a delicious buffet lunch at Sanctuary Lodge.
